Testimonials For Shenstone Hall Residential Home

April 2024

It took my mother, Joan Perks, to reach the age of 100 before she entered a Home having received an ultimatum from the Doctors at Good Hope Hospital, that her only option on leaving Hospital was to receive 24 hour round the clock supervision - something impossible to achieve amongst the family resources. Given the choice, she would have been adamant that she could cope with her previous 4 care worker visits - amounting to about 2 hours a day!The decision was taken out of her hands by the family.

Following several visits by members of the family to Shenstone Hall, a unanimous decision was made that this, on paper, suited both my mother's needs and that of myself, the only relative capable of regular visits and easy contact.

Location, the total suitability of her superbly equipped room, and the facilities offered to all the guests and most importantly, the care and attention offered by all the carers and the staff have guaranteed that our decision was the right one.

My personal experience is that my mother is, despite her initial prejudices, settling in really well. Always attentive and genuinely friendly, staff take full advantage of her wardrobe, she always starts the day looking as if she is going somewhere special(!). Her often cantankerous personality is handled without malice and it's a breath of fresh air to find a smile on her face - often!-and even participation in the numerous activities on offer. My mother has never eaten so well as is shown by her healthy persona.

Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff and her personal safety is clearly foremost in all staff minds.

Managers are always giving of their time, always seeking and giving updates on my mother's progress, no matter when they are approached.

I and my family very much appreciate the ambience and environment created at Shenstone Hall and have no hesitation in recommending it those others seeking a comforting a comforting final years of life for their loved ones.

Sincerely and with gratitude, Tony Perks on behalf of Nigel and Jacky, sons and daughters.

My mother-n-law, Win, has been living at Shenstone Hall for 5years. During this time she has been, and still is, very happy, settled and above all loved.

Prior to been at Shenstone Hall, Win was at another home for 18months-but had to move as that home was closing down. I was very concerned about her moving anywhere else at 98 years old.

I found Shenstone Hall was very proactive about ensuring it could meet her needs and that this home was right for her. This included the family having chance to view the home and ask  and questions

we wanted. This was followed by a visit from the manager of Shenstone Hall to see Win and myself in her then home. This was very productive and comfortable finding out what her needs were, what she liked to do and how she was feeling. This helped greatly in the settling of Win into a new home and environment.

There is a real family atmosphere at Shenstone Hall with staff being friendly, approachable and always willing to go the extra mile.

During COVID, Shenstone Hall was very proactive at keeping all the residents and staff safe - whilst this made it more difficult for family to visit - every measure that was taken was put in place in the best interest of my mother-in-law and the other residents.

I can recommend Shenstone Hall to you unreservedly as a place where your loved one will be part of a wider family, where they will be respected as an individual, and where they will be treated with dignity.

What more could you ask for !

The home is warm, clean and full of active communication with residents. Meals are taken in the dining room which promotes social interaction.

There is a regular visiting hairdresser and chiropodist to the home. Bithday and special occassions are also celebrated

All staff I have come across are caring and considerate. Mum has all her needs met and feels safe there.

As a family we could not have asked for anything better for mum and we are always made to feel welcome, very often with tea and biscuits.

I would highly recommend the home.

My mother has been at Shenstone Hall for 4 months now and has settled in well.

She accepts she needs 24hr care and is thriving in an environment where there is plenty going on.

She came to this home after 2 months in hospital in a very low state and has improved no end - she is now better than she was 4 years ago

Shenstone Hall has shown itself very capable in dealing with family situations

I have been very pleased with my mother in laws progress sinc she has been at Shenstone Hall

She has a lovely room overlooking the countryside.

staff are very pleasant and cheerful and there seems to be a very full activities programme - so she always seems busy.

She was living alone at home with carers, and for long periods was quiet lonely

This is  a far more sociable set up, and the are suitably overseen - she has made a remarkably recovery since leaving hospital

Hi Sue,Hi Dawn

Just wanted to send a quick note to thank you both and the staff at Shenstone Hall for the outstanding [and I mean OUTSTANDING] levels of care that you have provided for mum while she was a resident and most recently during her illness.

You have all been so kind and mum's final years enjoyable and safe, surrounded by kindness and friendly faces. I cannot tell you how much that has mean to me and the rest of the family

Speak soon and thank you again for everything you have done [especially you Sue,I know you gave up your own time to be with mum when we came up, you have been so, so kind].

Kind Regards

Testimony OE

Shenstone Hall was home for my mum for two years. Management and all staff provided her with an excellent level of care and were always made to feel welcome and always well informed of her needs and well-being.

The first year saw a wealth of activities including planned trips from the home, entertainment and celebration of special events. Christmas was particularly poignant and now a wonderful memory we cherish

Her second year saw the sadness of Covid-19. However, whenever possible, visits were organised and communication was maintained via photographs, email, phone, post and video. Staff worked diligently to ensure all residents were shielded from Covid. We had total confidence in their actions and they too became unsung heroes of the pandemic.

Sadly, due to existing underlying health problems, my mum passed away in June 2021. Covid restrictions still applied when she deteriorated, but management and staff worked with us as a family, to enable us to spend the final precious days with er in a safe and dignified manner. They became our friends and offered us the comfort we needed at the end

We shall miss the staff and residents we got to know and wish them all success and happiness for the future.

Dear Dawn and Sue

I wanted to express my thanks for my mother IW was looked after at Shenstone Hall for the two years she was with you prior to her death. Please will you pass my thanks onto all the staff.

Staff really got to know her needs very well and were able to pick up deterioration in her health and small discomforts very quickly and get prompt medical help. When I was able to visit, I was able to visit, I always observed staff being endlessly kind and patient with her and other residents. Staff were so sensitive and supportive to her when she was confused and when I could not visit during lockdown.

When I phoned the senior always had full information at their fingertips and always had time to talk to me. I always felt they talked about her with a real sense of warmth and knew she had a great relationship with everyone, and they appreciated her personality and valued her as a person.

I know how hard staff worked to keep her safe when she insisted on getting up in the night and the different options that were tried to pick up quickly whens she was out of bed to prevent falls. Communication with me was very good and I always told about relevant issues.

I particularly valued the commitment and support to ensure she did't get taken into hospital at the  end of her life as it would have been so distressing to her. At the end I found the calm and quiet end of life that she was provided with a familiar place very comforting.

It has been good to see consistent staff which I felt contributed to the excellent quality of highly personalized care provided.

I feel very hard and commitment to ensure COVID affect any of the residents is very impressive

I feel Shenstone Hall is a great residential home with an excellent staff culture which I know comes from great management

Your sincerely

Hi All,

Just wanted to send a quick message to say thank you so much for the wonderful life you are enabling my mum, MR, to have and for the reassurance you have given when I have called. I have chatted to Sue previously who has always put my mind and rest and speaking to Dawn today, hearing about my mum's antics really touched me.

After we spoke, I got straight on facebook to have a look at photos. It was wonderful to see............... She has changed a lot but I could recognize her straight away and I loved seeing the smile on her face and a glint in her eye.

I can see she is happy and content, all thanks to you. I worked in care for several years, specializing in dementia and genuinely recognize and appreciate the efforts you all make to give your residents quality of life that is so obvious to see. Heartfelt thanks to all of you.

Take care and stay safe , KP

Dear Sue

I would like to thank you and all the team of carers for the excellent care you gave my mother,WG, while she was a resident at Shenstone Hall.

I feel you and Dawn and the staff promoted a very relaxed and homely environment. There were many items of furniture similar to that which mum would have had in her own home, so that helped her to feel comfortable and relaxed. Though mum was reluctant to eat you adjusted the menu to encourage her to eat and drink more, so that she started to gain weight - ideal! Meetings were held to include residents and staff in discussions about various things , for example, the new winter menu and we were also told at those meetings about future developments and forthcoming events. Also there were pictures on Facebook that showed mum enjoying herself in various activities and a monthly newsletter too, so we were  kept informed at all times and encouraged to join in with the activities with mum, such as Bonfire Night.

Mum being a keen gardener was very pleased when you took her to the garden centre and let her choose and plant the tubs in the garden for last year's summer fete. When weather didn't allow her to be outside she enjoyed the time spent flower arranging with Helen and doing activities too, such as playing skittles, doing jigsaw puzzles and making Christmas decorations, to name but a few. Mum also enjoyed her conversations [putting the world to rights] in the activity room with other ladies and laying the wreath at Remembrance Day Service.

You kindly organised and supplied the catering in the upstairs conservatory for mum's 100th birthday party for 20 members of the family and friends to attend and it was definitely a day to remember! It goes to show nothing was too much trouble!

Mum always considered herself to be a country person and Shenstone Hall fitted her needs perfectly. Thank you again for caring for mum!

Yours Faithfully

My mother MH spent the last year and a half of her life at Shenstone Hall, and I have nothing but praise for the staff and the home. The environment was always  clean and very homely with  lovely grounds and gardens. The food offered , was always nutritious and well balanced.

Management always made sure that the menu included food that residents liked and encouraged them to make suggestions when the menu was changed.

There was a daily activity timetable offering quizzes crafts and games, and residents were encouraged to choose films and music as well.

Mum liked dancing and staff encouraged her to dance and teach other residents to dance too!

Staff were always respectful, very caring, and patient with mum  and always took time  to chat to her, and go for walks in the grounds with her which  she really liked.

When Mums health deteriorated and she became bed bound management made every effort to accommodate her changing needs.

The day to day care they offered could not be bettered, they gave her such dedicated care encouraging her to drink and eat and turning her and changing her and spending time just sitting by the bed and chatting to her.

Management staff took it in turns to stay with myself and mum day and night when she was end of life and offered me every support during her last few days

I would not hesitate to recommend, as a very positive caring and person centered home

After a very long hard decision we had got to a stage where it became obvious, mu mom, JW was in

need of full time residential care. We looked at 5 different homes in the midlands area, and we were determined that Shenstone Hall was the most suitable.

Shenstone Hall being one of the homes we visited. On an unannounced arrival we were shown around by Sarah one of the seniors who showed us all the rooms that were available. Shenstone Hall is a big place with lots of character. We were told that we could bring personal things to put in the room if we desired to do so. We were able to choose the room we wanted, however on the same day we popped back, again unannounced and was greeted by Sue one of the managers where we then decided on what room we would like for our mom.

Everyone at Shenstone were lovely right down to the house keeping and catering staff. All medications were dealt with, they used to be delivered here and administered by the staff.

Dietary needs are accommodated as required.

Carol does the admin as ell as helping with the residents, she's there for any finances if you wish support, IE money for hairdresser or chiropodist when they visit.

Everyone is approachable should you need to discuss anything

During the last few weeks of moms time at Shenstone everyone went above and beyond for my mom, I couldn't of wished for anything better.

I just want to add that at this  time I had every support from the staff, Sue and Dawn are very hands on also should you wish to talk any worries you may have they are there with advise and support

So I would recommend Shenstone Hall 100%

Dad stayed at Shenstone Hall for several months during his period of illness and the quality of care, support and attention delivered by the entire Care Team was absolutely first class.

From the time the family went to visit Shenstone Hall as a potential stay of residence for Dad, we knew that we had found the right place for him and one in which he would be very comfortable and happy. From the outset, we were greeted welcomingly and warmly. We felt very assured by the comfortable surroundings, safety aspects and security of the location and by the care and attention we were shown by the management team and caring staff alike.

Time was taken in understanding Dad's needs and requirements as well as those of the family. A care plan was designed and tailored to meet Dad's specific care delivery requirements, thereby ensuring his welfare, preferences, choices and independence were maintained at all times. He was shown great respect, dignity, attention, privacy and love during his stay. Nothing was too much trouble for his carers and we greatly appreciated the confidentiality, support and care he was given.

The family would not hesitate to recommend Shenstone Hall and a Residential Care Home for long term care, day care or respite care as in our experience all our requirements and goals for Dad's care were applied and delivered with quality, confidence and privacy, plus with a high degree of experience and confidentiality.

Our mother chose Shenstone Hall following a decline in her ability to cope with living at home. She trusted the owner, Dawn Jackson, who is also the owner of the care agency, which had supported Mum in the community for several years. The option offered to Mum of a trail period was greatly appreciated as it helped Mum come to terms with her decision.

From the start, Mum has been treated with great kindness and consistency by all staff members. The family are always welcome to visit at any time. We feel listened to and appreciate the flexible care Mum receives eg. She can get up in the morning to suit her, eat her meals when and where she chooses and settle in her room at her convenience. Nothing seems too much trouble for the staff. Incidental observation of how staff care and attend to other residents demonstrates the same consistency and kind approach.

Mum is offered  options and choices which are important, to encourage her independence as far as is possible. Awareness of her spiritual needs is acknowledged and discussed with the family. When Mum has had medical/ nursing needs, contact is made and discussed. Mum likes us to work together in our support of her needs and Shenstone Hall achieve this whilst respecting her dignity.

The atmosphere is homely and warm. There is always a welcome and consistent response to any contact we make. A friends mum has moved to Shenstone Hall on our recommendation, which demonstrates how pleased we are as a family with Mum's care.

Dawn is a fantastic manager who repeatedly goes above and beyond for the residents at Shenstone.

My uncle has lived at Shenstone for many months now and the change in him is wonderful to see, he is encouraged and supported to do many activities and especially enjoys the garden!

The home itself is a lovely building in beautiful grounds, it is well cared for by Dawn and her team and is always a joy to visit.
